Work Experience
Every year we like to offer a number of work experience placements for young people who live locally to our sites. We aim to offer meaningful experiences of working life to help inform young people, (like yourself!) about the options and pathways that are available.
-
We have a vast range of departments across Victrex, and each have their own peak and off-peak periods during the year, this means that each work experience request is dealt with on a case-by-case basis and cannot be guaranteed.
Departments that typically help with work experience requests include Mechanical, Instrumental and Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Research and Development (R&D), Sustainability, Admin, Human Resources, Marketing Communications, Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, IT, Cyber Security, and more!
-
Our placement periods for general work experience are one week, we believe this is a great opportunity for you to get a taste of the working world, without it becoming overwhelming!
We ask that you make all requests at least three months prior to the commencement of the placement to allow for enough time to plan with the relevant departments.
-
It is important to us to directly support the children and young adults who live and attend schools close to our sites and so their requests will receive first priority. Where there is additional capacity, we may consider other students located further away who may want to travel to do their work experience with us.
Students must be able to get to and from site by themselves as well as provide their own lunch.
-
Throughout any work experience, the safety of both you and our employees are of utmost importance to us.
You will be supervised during your work experience placement, and you may be required to wear appropriate personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including clothing. We will provide these for you free of charge, but please do remember to return all items to us at the end of your placement!
It’s important that you follow all reasonable instructions from your Victrex buddy/supervisor throughout the work experience, they are responsible for keeping you safe, so please help them, help you.
Many of our employees are DBS checked due to the STEM outreach that we conduct in local schools, colleges, universities and the wider community. For any safeguarding queries you can speak to our Sustainability & ESG Manager, who will be available during your placement.
-
We welcome all students to apply for work experience, if you are a person with a disability or are neurodivergent, please let us know in the form so we can work with you to still plan a meaningful work experience placement.
-
I was never bored and had lots to do to challenge me and keep me busy, it wasn't just a shadowing experience.
-
The areas which I was least looking forward to I enjoyed the most, I have been pleasantly surprised.
-
All staff and workers are extremely friendly and I really felt welcomed by everyone who I met on site. I am thankful to have had this experience and can not wait to apply for an apprenticeship at Victrex when the applications open.

Victrex Enabling Support
At Victrex, we are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible recruitment experience for all candidates. We understand that every individual may have different needs, and we want to ensure that everyone has a fair opportunity to showcase their skills and potential throughout the recruitment process.
If you require any adjustments to help you apply for a role or participate in an interview, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We are here to support you, and we will work with you to identify and implement the adjustments that best suit your individual circumstances. Adjustments can be made at any stage of the recruitment process and are tailored to meet your specific needs.
Here are some examples of adjustments we can offer:
Providing extra time for online assessments
Ensuring step-free access to interview rooms
Offering the option to submit written or video responses
Providing quiet interview spaces for neurodiverse candidates
Offering flexible scheduling for interviews
Please note that this is not an exhaustive list. We are open to discussing any other adjustments that may help you feel comfortable and confident during the recruitment process. Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where everyone can thrive.
We also know that sometimes, you may just want to talk, whether it’s for advice, support, or a confidential conversation about any aspect of Diversity, Equity, or Inclusion (DEI) before applying. And that’s absolutely okay too! Our goal is to ensure everyone feels welcome, supported, and empowered throughout their journey with us.
So, if there’s anything you need, please get in touch. Let’s work together to make sure the process is fair, inclusive, and right for you, from the very start.
