Quality Engineer
Kleiss Gears, Inc. (a Victrex Company), located in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, is an ISO 9001–accredited manufacturing site specializing in high‑performance polymer and PEEK component molding. The Grantsburg facility supports growing markets including medical, automotive, and precision gear applications. The Quality Engineer ensures that new and current products and processes comply with applicable quality management systems, standards, and regulations while meeting customer requirements. This role also serves as the Lead Quality Contact for all customer-facing quality issues, ensuring a single point of communication for complaints, audits, and PPAP status.
Job Details:
Serve as the primary customer-facing contact for all quality issues, including complaints, PPAP status, audits, and scorecards.
Lead APQP activities, including Inspection and Control Plans, PFMEA, GR&R, FAIRs, and related deliverables, ensuring compliance with the quality manual and customer requirements.
Own PPAP submissions and maintain customer portals as required.
Conduct and support structured problem solving (8D/CAPA) for internal and external quality issues.
Collaborate with the QA Systems Technician on internal audits, document control, and corrective action tracking.
Coach and train QC Inspectors on inspection methods, sampling plans, and measurement techniques.
Assist manufacturing in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation, providing statistical analysis support, evaluating metrics of scrap and non-conforming products, analyzing production limitations and standards, and optimizing documentation related to quality and inspection checks.
Responsible for the specification, development, and optimization of testing equipment, test reports and procedures, inspection fixtures, and calibration of testing equipment requirements as well as the programming and operation of same (including CMM, GMM, DSC, and others).
Responsible for Supplier Quality Management, ensuring quality standards are met by all outside vendors by reviewing performance, conducting audits, and driving corrective actions to completion.
Lead continuous improvement projects throughout the business, using LEAN principles to achieve safety improvements and cost reductions.
Experience:
Demonstrated experience programming and operating a CMM is preferred.
Previous experience in a plastic injection molding operation is preferred.
Broad knowledge base of manufacturing processes, applications, technologies, and quality management systems is beneficial.
Demonstrated capability with quality tools such as (PPAP, Control Plan, GR&R, PFMEA, SPC, etc.) is preferred.
Possess an understanding of quality standards, philosophies & principles, systems, methods, tools, and standards.
Experience programming and operating various inspection equipment including vision systems and CMMs.
Demonstrate thorough knowledge of GD&T Principles and gage design and function.
Excellent interpersonal skills with strong communications skills; demonstrated ability to influence the behavior of peers and others outside the direct reporting line.
