Victrex is seeking a passionate and talented Scientist to join our dynamic team. This is your chance to be at the forefront of cutting-edge polymer science and make a significant impact on our innovative projects.
Role purpose
As a Polymer Scientist at Victrex, you will design, plan, deliver, and evaluate experimental projects that support our mission to develop new polymer applications, optimise existing products, and enhance our processes. Your work will be pivotal in driving our market, platform, and operational technical objectives forward.
Key responsibilities
Innovative Project Design: Lead the design, planning, and execution of experimental chemistry projects, focused on the technology of polyaryletherketones. The role will be a hands-on laboratory position, in the synthesis, purification and characterisation of engineering polymers.
Data Analysis and Interpretation: Utilise a range of in-house and external analytical services to evaluate material properties, with a view to developing structure-property relationships.
Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including suppliers and manufacturing, to define and deliver impactful projects. Supervision of technicians, placement students, or apprentices may be required.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure all laboratory procedures promote safe working practices in line with internal and external regulations. Take responsibility for SHE within laboratories through COSHH, risk assessments and equipment ownership.
Qualifications and skills
Educational Background: Degree or higher in chemistry, material science, or a relevant scientific discipline, an MSc or PhD in polymer chemistry is desirable. Experienced laboratory staff with industrial experience in a polymer manufacturing environment are encouraged to apply.
A background in the synthesis and analysis of polymers is desirable as is experience in a range of analytical techniques such as rheometry, DSC and GPC.
Analytical Expertise: Strong analytical, communication, and team collaboration skills. Proficiency in statistical and data management tools.
