Capital Project Manager
We have an exciting opportunity for a Capital Project Manager to join our team.
This role will focus on the management of Capital projects in the business portfolio; supporting our strategic growth areas as well as our core chemical manufacturing sites.
With sites in Teesside, Rotherham Leeds and Stonehouse as well as our manufacturing facilities at our headquarters in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire, this role will manage projects working with teams in all locations. We are willing to be flexible, requiring a home base close to one of the Victrex UK sites. With flexible hybrid working, there is an expectation for a presence at least 1-2 days per week at Victrex HQ, along with frequent travel to our project locations as the projects demand.
More about the role
The Victrex capital programme is crucial to the success of the business, involving multi-million-pound investments in new assets, production plants and facilities in the UK and overseas. Delivery of these investments requires project management expertise at a professional level.
Reporting to the Strategic Development Leader, you will be responsible for the programme and project management of capital projects involving design, engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and commissioning activities to ensure successful delivery in terms of time, cost and quality. You will also provide support to the manufacturing value streams in order to deliver their project portfolio in line with the Capital project process.
Programme management - you will co-ordinate and progress the programme of investments allocated, this will include acceleration, deceleration, redefining, terminating and initiating projects within the programme. A requirement of the role is to manage interdependencies between projects as well as resources available and resource conflicts.
Project management - as Capital Project Manager you will be required to agree project objectives with the project sponsor and confirm project team roles and responsibilities with steering teams. You will select, manage and expedite 3rd parties (professional engineers, vendors and subcontractors) and handover completed assets to users. As part of the role you will develop and deliver the front-end design, plan and cost estimation to sanction quality estimate standard (presanction). You will manage the implementation of the plans ensuring that progress is maintained in line with objectives including overall project cost and timing. You will manage risks, issues and changes at a project level, whilst using appropriate mechanisms, tools and techniques.
As Capital Project Manager, you will be responsible for delivery of up to 30% of our capital portfolio in any financial year; multiple projects or individual value >£10M. You will manage contracting teams of professional engineers, designers, buyers and construction supervisors, indirectly. There may be a requirement to line manage and support the development of our Project Engineers.
Your experience
We are looking for someone with excellent competence in both engineering and/or project management with the ability to lead others applying the competence. You will have demonstrable experience of delivering multi million pound projects preferably in a chemical processing / manufacturing or building services environment. Demonstrated success in leading and delivering significant multi-discipline engineering projects and solutions is required.
Our ideal candidate will have proven experience of the application of detailed problem solving skills to resolve complex problems. A relevant engineering degree, or equivalent experience with professional membership of an Engineering Institution is preferred. You should have demonstrable experience of working on COMAH regulated industrial plants, or a similar regulated manufacturing industry.
Experience of Line managing and developing others is an advantage.
